The Way and the Basket

I set out with one clear intention: to receive.

I had been sleeping badly. Too many activities, too many plans, too much mind. CàNoVa was at risk of becoming an engineering project to manage, rather than a journey to walk.
Three days on the Via Francigena del Sud, in the June 2026’s heat. With my youngest daughter Michela — her first camino. Me with an infected tick bite, antibiotics, a painful knee.

Above thirty degrees, the walk was short but complete.

The monastery We spent the last night in a Franciscan monastery.

Entering, a simple observation: the structure resembles that of the Borghetto at Colgrande. An enclosure — not a defensive wall, a threshold. A sacred centre. Around it, the shared working spaces, the garden. The private cells.
Francis knew this. The Inca knew it. Evidently it is a form that works.

At Colgrande the centre will not be a church. It will be the mother oak — an ancient living being that witnesses, grounds, orients. The Borghetto wall is not just architecture: it is threshold, protection, the necessary boundary between inhabited space and forest. The same structure answers three levels at once: symbolic, relationl, practical.

The dream The last message arrived late at night, in a dream.

We were at Colgrande, welcoming people. When they left, we gave each of them a small basket: an apricot, two strawberries, a peach, a jar of honey.

Simple products. But the key was making people feel — through the taste — how different they were from anything they would find elsewhere.

That dream clarified what I had been trying to understand for months.

The measure CàNoVa is not a list of tasks to complete.

It is a method for producing fruits that have a different taste — because they are born from the simultaneous meeting of practised love, deep knowledge and manual work (Munay, Yachay, Llankay). For now we are small and few. The near-term fruits can only be small and few. But they can contain something that industry and capitalism will never be able to replicate.

This is the focus of our new roadmap: not tasks to complete, not project activities to plan, but fruits to produce in a way that is unique, loving, artisanal.
